The Best Apple Pie with Crumble Topping

This old-fashioned apple pie with crumble topping is made with tender cinnamon-spiced apples and a buttery streusel topping.

Ingredients

Apple Pie

  • 5 to 6 cups thinly sliced apples
  • 1/4 Heaping cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup White sugar
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 9- to 10-inch Unbaked pie crust
  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving, optional

Crumble Topping

  • 2/3 stick Butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 3/4 cup Flour

Instructions

Apple Pie

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
  • Peel and thinly slice the apples, then place them in a large bowl.
  • Add the sugar, flour, and cinnamon into the sliced apples and stir.
  • Pour the apple mixture into an unbaked pie shell.

Crumble Topping

  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, sugar, and flour.
  • Use a fork to mix the crumb mixture until it becomes thick and crumbly.
  • Sprinkle the crumb mixture evenly over the apple filling.
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes.
  • If the edge of the crust becomes too brown, cover the edges with foil or a pie shield.
  • Cool the pie on a wire cooling rack and serve warm or at room temperature with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

To use canned apples, use two 15-ounce cans of sliced apples, well drained. Since canned apples are already sweetened, reduce the sugar to ½ cup and the flour to 3 tablespoons. The buttery crumb topping stays exactly the same.

To substitute peaches, use 5 to 6 cups of thinly sliced peaches. Continue with the rest of the ingredients.
