Angel Food Cake with Strawberries

This angel food cake with strawberries is my grandma's version of strawberry shortcake. It is so simple and can be thrown together in a matter of minutes for a last-minute dessert idea.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of fresh strawberries
  • 1/3 cup sugar (more if you want sweeter strawberries)
  • 1 - 2 pints heavy whipping cream (use 2 pints if you want lots of whipped cream)
  • 2 - 4 Tbsp. powdered sugar (use 2 Tbsp. per pint of heavy whipping cream)
  • 1 angel food cake

Instructions

  • Slice the strawberries into bite size pieces and sprinkle with sugar. Stir and let set until you are ready to put the dessert together.
  • Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form, about 7-8 minutes.
  • Slice the angel food cake crossways into thirds.
  • Layer the dessert with cake, whipped cream, then strawberries and repeat three times.

Notes

I used 2 pints of heavy whipping cream for the photos, which shows how much whipping cream 2 pints will be when layered between the angel food cake and strawberries. However, I always have some whipped cream leftover. If you only use 1 pint, your whipped cream layers won't be as thick as the ones in the photos, but they'll still be just as delicious!
