Friends, I must say I am embarrassed by how disastrous and disorganized my pantry has become. In fact, it’s embarrassing to even share this picture. Even Wrango is looking at me in the picture like, “Really, you’re not really sharing this picture are you!?!?” But fear not, I FINALLY got the courage to take everything out and get organized!
Taking the Leap
My pantry was in such disarray, I had two—yes TWO—trash bags full of expired foods that had been stashed in the back. I am so guilty of only doing a quick scan of my pantry before I run out the door to pick up items for a special dish I want to make. The way I had stuff crammed in the far back of my shelves, it’s no wonder I didn’t know what I had back there.
The way my pantry organization turned out, now I can easily scan my pantry and find what I have. I ordered a few organizer gadgets from Amazon, and they have been a pantry organization lifesaver!
Getting Started
First, as I mentioned above, I took EVERYTHING out of the pantry. Unfortunately I did not take a picture of everything all spread out on my counters. While I was unloading the pantry, my husband was lying on the couch watching TV. He got up and walked into the kitchen and saw our entire pantry contents on the counters and dining table and said, “Whoa! How did I not hear you doing all of this?” I’m not sure how he didn’t hear me, but the look on his face sure was funny—I don’t think he realized how much we had crammed in our pantry either. Every inch of our counter tops was covered with pantry contents.
Gadgets I Used to Help Organize
One of the pantry organizer gadgets I found is this tiered shelf for canned goods. Unfortunately, the way my pantry shelves are put together I was only able to incorporate one. Technically I could have put one on each shelf, but I like the canned goods together. It really worked out perfectly because I don’t have a lot of canned goods since we mostly eat fresh and frozen vegetables.
Since I couldn’t use very many of the tiered canned good shelves, I bought some Lazy Susans for condiments and all of my tomato products. I keep a lot of tomatoes on hand for homemade BBQ sauce, pasta sauce, and soups.
My pantry organization gadgets also include a couple of metal baskets that can be stacked if you have room. To save money, I also incorporated several baskets I was already using in my pantry. I know they don’t all match, but I don’t mind because I can find everything easily and that was my ultimate goal.
This long skinny metal drawer organizer works perfectly for lunch condiments. I pack my husband’s lunch every day so I bought a variety pack of Sir Kensington individual packets of mayo, mustard, and ketchup for his lunches. This drawer organizer works like a charm and allows me to easily see what I’m looking for.
One of my favorite things I bought for my pantry organization is an organizer used for pots and pans, but I use it for all of my paper grocery bags I save. They were just in one huge pile in the floor—yes, I can’t even believe I let this happen! Now, they are organized nicely so I can easily grab one.
The Finishing Touch
These adorable chalk tags are the finishing touch to my pantry organization and help identify the basket contents. The first day the pantry was organized, my husband grabbed some crackers and put the remaining in the wrong basket. So, I thought some tags would be helpful! 🙂
Voilà! There it is…the finished organized pantry. I can find everything at a moment’s notice. If your pantry needs a makeover, please don’t be intimidated. I think that’s why I put it off for so long, but it was worth the time to get organized! Let me know if you have any pantry organization tips.
