Why You Will Love these Bread Machine Dinner Rolls

Homemade yeast rolls are a staple for many holiday gatherings, dinner parties, and family get-togethers. You will love this bread machine recipe because it uses simple ingredients and is easy to make. It is a great recipe when trying to cook multiple dishes, such as when cooking your Thanksgiving dinner, because you can toss everything into the bread machine and walk away until the dough is ready.

Once the dough is ready, roll into balls, let them rise, and bake. Voilà! You have hot delicious golden-brown dinner rolls with little effort.

Since they are made with yeast, you need to allow time for them to rise. However, putting the ingredients in the bread machine to create the dough will allow you to walk away until the dough is ready. That makes this recipe so easy, and the perfect rolls to make when you’re busy cooking other dishes.

Ingredients for the homemade soft dinner rolls.

  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons of active dry yeast

How to Make This Homemade Soft Dinner Rolls Recipe in the Bread Machine

  1. Add warm milk (not more than 110 degrees), vanilla, and beaten egg into a mixing bowl. Don’t heat the milk to more than 110 degrees or your egg will scramble.
  2. Pour the milk mixture into the bowl of the bread machine.
  3. Add pats of butter to the liquid.
  4. Gently add the flour so it sits on top of the liquid. Create a small well in the flour for the rest of the ingredients.
  5. Add the rest of the dry ingredients in order.
  6. Turn the bread maker to the dough setting. My bread machine dough cycle takes one and one-half hours.
  7. Once the bread machine is finished, place dough onto a lightly floured surface.
  8. Roll into 24 balls and place into a greased baking pan. If you want to weigh the balls, the pieces of dough are roughly 1.2 oz. to 1.5 oz. each. Weighing the dough will make your rolls more uniform in size.
  9. Once the dough balls are all made, brush them with melted butter.
  10. Cover with a towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for one to one-and-a-half hours or until double in bulk.
  11. Bake rolls at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Serve hot rolls with butter, honey, or homemade jam.
  13. Store the baked dinner rolls at room temperature in an airtight container for 2 to 4 days.

Substitutions and Modifications for Bread Rolls

  • Substitute warm water for the warm milk or warm coconut milk for a dairy-free version. The rolls won’t be as rich if you use water because the fat from the milk helps give the rolls a soft, tender texture.
  • Swap the butter for healthy fats such as plant-based butter or coconut oil.
  • Bread flour could be swapped for all-purpose flour, but this will give your rolls a chewier texture instead of a soft, fluffy texture.

How to Serve These Fresh Dinner Rolls

The vanilla and sugar create slightly sweet dinner rolls that can be served with any holiday feast, family gathering, or fun dinner party. This Homemade Soft Dinner Rolls Recipe in the Bread Machine pairs beautifully with my Prime Rib Roast Recipe or my Slow Roasted Turkey Recipe. Bon Appétit!
