If you’re an amaretto connoisseur, you have got to try this Amaretto Sour Cocktail. It has the perfect balance of sweet and savory using amaretto, bourbon, and a surprise ingredient. It is truly the best Amaretto Sour I’ve ever tasted!

When my husband and I were first dating, he is the one who introduced me to the Amaretto Sour Cocktail. I love the sweet taste of amaretto and many recipes use a sour mix to cut some of the sweetness. However, the cocktail recipe I’m sharing today, is like none I’ve ever tasted.

How I found this Amaretto Sour recipe

During this past year and a half of quarantine, while experimenting with various cocktail recipes, I discovered Liber and Company cocktail syrups. These cocktail syrups are a game changer for cocktails. On their website, they have tons of amazing cocktail recipes using their syrups. That is where I found this amazing Amaretto Sour recipe, and had to give it my own twist.

What’s in the Amaretto Sour Cocktail

Most Amaretto Sour recipes use the standard sour mix with a simple syrup. The Liber and Company recipe uses their Classic Gum Syrup and lemon juice, but I use the Almond Orgeat Syrup instead, which is my favorite. The almond syrup gives it an extra “almond” flavor and replaces the simple syrup used in most traditional recipes.

The other ingredient that many bars don’t include in their Amaretto Sour is bourbon. Yes, this recipe has bourbon! Gasp! I’m not only an amaretto fan, but also a bourbon fan and the two mixed together in this sweet and savory cocktail are delicious. The Almond Orgeat Syrup gives the recipe an added almond flavor with some sweetness and the lemon juice gives it some tart. If you’re not big on sweet cocktails, that’s okay. This recipe is not super sweet—it’s the right balance.

If you enjoy cocktails with a hint of sweet and tart, you should also try my St. Germain Elderflower Cocktail or my Torched Cherry Cocktail.

Another change I made from the Liber and Company recipe is that they use an egg white, and I don’t. I am not a fan of egg whites in my cocktails, but I think it’s more of a mental thing thinking about drinking a raw egg.

How to assemble the cocktail

This amaretto cocktail recipe is super simple. All you do is add all of the ingredients to a cocktail shaker with a small amount of ice, then shake and pour over fresh ice. Add a lemon wedge or cherry for garnish. So simple, yet so delicious. Enjoy!

Molly
