The broken ankle
Let’s start with the broken ankle…yes, I know, right before the holidays begin. Sigh. And, I owe it all to my sweet boy Wrango.
We were out for our usual daily walk, and a jogger was going by with her dog, so Wrango and I stepped into a yard to let her pass. The yard was actually a very steep hill, and when she went by, Wrango decided to try and follow them.
I was on the phone not paying attention, and I didn’t have a good footing on the hill, so he yanked me down. The sweet girl wanted to help me, but Wrango wanted to go with them, so I told her just to go on. I knew if I tried to get up, he’d pull me back down trying to follow them.
Finally, I was able to stand up, and limp back home in a lot of pain. To add more complication, my husband was out of town. I called him in tears, and he immediately called a good friend to take me to the emergency room.
My ankle ended up being fractured in multiple places. I picked the color red for my cast because I thought it was a good holiday color. My hubby is now back home, and waiting on me hand and foot! So, I guess there is an upside to everything!
The cozy cable knit sweater
I had ordered this Dreamers distressed cable knit sweater, and it arrived the day after I broke my ankle. The timing was perfect, because it felt like a get-well gift to myself! Hehe!
I have been wearing this cozy cable knit sweater almost every day. It is so warm and soft and the perfect thing to wrap myself up in while I’m sitting around with my foot propped up. I had a few pair of old leggings so I cut the length off for my leg with the cast, and then tucked the edge down into the top of my cast. I love wearing this cozy sweater over warm leggings.
To end the week, we had a light snow dusting here. It just seemed like perfect timing with the holidays approaching because I love snow and a warm cozy sweater. If you want another cozy sweater idea, check out my sweater weather post!

Discovered this post while searching what to wear over my cast. I also broke my ankle in multiple places on Wednesday while walking my dog. Slipped on black ice. Unfortunately I was unable to get up and the rescue was called. Surgery next week.
Please let me know if you found other pants to wear.
Robin –
I am so sorry to hear this! It’s been a brutal winter.
As far as other pants, I also bought these sweatpants from Under Armour: https://amzn.to/3HNvRxM. They were stretchy and had wide pant legs (that fit well over the cast) and pockets. They looked really cute with a button-up shirt or sweater – it made the outfit look as dressy as possible.
I found mine at Dick’s Sporting Goods and was able to use a coupon. You might be able to find these cheaper or an off-brand, but the key is the pockets (to look like dress pants) and the wide-legs (to fit over the cast).
If you email me your mailing address at molly@livinginnormal.com, I’d love to send you a get-well gift. I hope you have a speedy recovery.
xoxo,
Molly
