Choosing the Right Tableware

When setting your dining table, there are so many options for tableware. Your custom table setting depends on your budget and the ambiance you want to create.

When I host get-togethers, I love to use silver flatware and china for the place settings. I have collected most of my tableware from estate sales, yard sales, and Facebook Marketplace, and they are generally very inexpensive.

I typically set matching salad plates on top of the dinner plates to create an elegant dining experience. This Black and White Table Setting décor also includes matching bread and butter side plates, but I didn’t use them because I didn’t want the table to feel cluttered.

A white plate or another solid color plate can be used in place of the salad plate or the side plate. This would provide a cohesive look to your black and white tablescape by mixing and matching dinnerware.

If you don’t have china or silver flatware that fits your theme, don’t be afraid to buy paper plates. In my Simple Thanksgiving Tablescape post, I used paper plates and disposable charger plates that I found at Home Goods. Using disposable tableware is a great way to save money because it’s inexpensive. It’s also a time-saver when cleaning up.

I also love to incorporate cloth napkins and crystal stemware into my beautiful table settings. Cloth napkins and gorgeous stemware add extra details to your table, providing a more elevated and personalized look.

Where I Found My Black and White Vintage China

If you have read my blog post about The Hidden Treasures of Antiques and Vintage Items, you know I began my journey of collecting vintage and antique tableware in 2022. Since that time, I have expanded my collection of china, silverware, and drinkware because we love to entertain.

Recently, I discovered an incredible shop called Hoffman’s Patterns of the Past. It is filled with loads of antique and vintage tableware. This is where I found my Black Lace Noritake fine china.

As I was perusing the shelves that held hundreds of china patterns at Hoffman’s Patterns of the Past, I was drawn to this stunning black and white china. This simple yet elegant design can be the center stage for a show-stopping Black and White Table Setting and is perfect for formal or casual entertaining.

If you are in search of the perfect vintage tableware for your next dinner party, Facebook Marketplace, yard sales, and estate sales are great resources to pick up these hidden treasures. I found the following china patterns and silver flatware on Facebook Marketplace for unbelievably low prices:

Where I Found the Décor for My Table

These Elegant Black and White Table Setting Ideas are so easy to put together and very inexpensive. I used a black gauze table runner that is perfect for formal dining, casual dining, or even rustic dining.

The star of the show for this centerpiece is the panda anemone flowers. These striking white flowers with a black center match the black lace china dinnerware perfectly. The bud vases that hold the flowers were from an estate sale and were very inexpensive.

The beeswax candles add a touch of rustic with a touch of elegance to my black and white tablescape. They are displayed in silver candlestick holders that I picked up from Facebook Marketplace for around $10. I love how the candlestick holders coordinate with the silver trim on the plates.

The eucalyptus garland intertwined with the candlestick holders and bud vases came from my local craft store, but you can find similar ones on Amazon.

The silver flatware, at each place setting, was another find at an estate sale. Many estate sales cut the price in half on the last day of the sale, which is how I scored this gorgeous silverware for a super low price.

The cloth napkins are from Atelier Saucier, which is my favorite place to purchase table linens. Their products are sustainably sourced and made in the USA with reclaimed textiles.

Additional Elegant Black and White Table Setting Ideas to Incorporate

  • Use a white tablecloth for a more formal occasion.
  • Add matte black charger plates for a bold look.
  • Create a more rustic feel with black and white gingham napkins.
  • Scatter silver and white balls down the black table runner for a holiday theme.
  • Swap out the pillar candles with votive candles for a more casual vibe.

Why You Will Love This Black and White Table Décor

Elegant Black and White Table Setting Ideas are easy to incorporate into any celebration or get-together. This color combination is perfect for weddings, bridal showers, birthday parties, holiday gatherings, or dinner parties.

A well-styled table sets the tone for your gathering, creates inviting conversation, and shows dinner party guests you went the extra mile to make them feel special.

Whenever we host a dinner party, I am always asked about the way the table is set and where I found all the tableware. From the vintage china to the sustainable napkins, I love that my table décor allows our guests to feel welcome and curious about the hidden secrets our place settings hold.
